I live in Canada. Not close to the border but not in the actual (mostly inoccupied) North either. 48th parallel.

A shearling and a tee will be enough until December but in the coldest months of our 6-month-long winter you’re gonna want that knit. Probably more.

I realize that’s the exception and not the rule.

Anthropological evidence of @XWT in the depths of a Canadian winter:

I hope you don't have too high expectations for the deerskin.
The best leathers of 5* are clearly goat and shearling.

Yeah everyone says the goatskin is the best, but the images I've seen of the black deerskin look very nice too.

If I recall you had one done up in deerskin, what didn't you like about it?

It is ok, but I would like it to be thicker and more natural. The pattern of the leather is pressed / printed and will develop so rather no patina. But comfortable to wear it is in any case. Again, I would probably also rather take the dark instead of cognac.

I'm okay with this being more of a "fashion" jacket so the weight/fake grain don't bother me so much. It's my first 5* custom order anyways so the chances of it fitting well enough to get enough wear to develop a patina seems unlikely.

Once I really nail my measurements, I'm thinking I'll get a thick goatskin jacket or vest in a suitably beefy pattern. Maybe a half-belt double rider?

Well, I was off by a couple of days, but still a pretty good estimate imho.

Also, sigh. ?

As far as I'm concerned, @Understatesman is just doing the lord's good work of importing nice jackets in my approximate sizes from East to West. Still kicking myself a little for not splurging on the last FCL Raymond.

Thanks for the free advertising. You musta missed my earlier post where I said I bought a bigger size. So yeah, of course I'm going to sell this. But I guess you showed me. I should hold onto things that don't fit me in case people like you want to play gotcha by posting my listings here on SF.
