Most people I think just check the thread because it´s been a source of entertainment for a while, at least if you didn´t have an order like myself. For those with orders I reckon it´s a mix of that and eternal grief, considering how it all has unfolded.

The front page is meant to highlight some of the better threads and entertaining things on the forum. The ToJ thread is not how we want to present ourselves. If people care, it's easy enough to find.

I'm going to order a Type III jacket in the heaviest horsehide that Aero will allow, today, from Thurston Bros. @ChrisGold , do you know how that model fits? There are no fit pictures on line. Mostly I want to know how the arm holes are, and whether it is more like an actual jean jacket, and less like a moto.

My understanding is that it's made more like a jeans jacket, and they have always stated that it's basically a lined Type 3, only in leather. With their long relationship with Levis, and being a place that you can still buy a NOS type 3 from, they certainly have plenty of jackets laying around to pattern after. Carrie had posted a picture of a custom type 3 in dark brown about a year ago, but the owner never followed up with a fit picture. It's so hard to tell from those photos how the fit would be, although it did NOT look like a moto pattern to me. I'm going to ask someone in Scotland who might know, I'll get back if I get better information.

Edit: they do note in one place on their website that it's cut like a traditional jeans jacket, but I've reached out to my friend in Scotland who has probably tried one on and will see what he has to say.

Sometimes you have to highlight a serious situation as well to help people get closure and accountability.

Carrie and Wade told me that it fit more like a halfbelt, but obviously, shorter. I've never tried on a half belt. My idea is to have it made in a heavy black horse CXL, and wear the crap out of it, so that it's 1/2 bad cowboy, 1/2 Route 66 drifter, and 1/2 streetfighter. Yes, that's three halves. That is how badass it will/should, be.

Incidentally, do you know any place to get a Lewis leather fast and relatively cheap? Lewis Leathers quoted me 12-16 weeks for a custom Cyclone, which is too long for me to wait.

And you feel that that thread will accomplish those goals? C'mon now. Be serious.

But it would be a great place to get content for a Choose Your Own ToJ Adventure story.

So one of the people I reached out to had this to say about the jacket:

"I have handled one - I tried one in tan steer on in the factory with a view to buying it. It's slim-fitting with a tubular body, just like the originals, but it just didn't suit my frame - I'm mainly leg - just like the 38 contract A-2s"

Still waiting on someone else who might have even better information (specifically about how the pattern came about) but I think it's going to be a nice fit. Most half belts are pretty slim designs, as they are modeled after true vintage jackets that were made to fit the typical very slim American of that era. The premier half belt line is very slim with high arm holes and has a great silhouette.

Lewis is an enigma in that they currently seem to not have a single US stock list, only over in the UK, and only full price. Even there it appears they don't carry much stock and will just be a middle man for a custom build. Frustrating as there is certainly a market here but with that 3 to 4 month wait they apparently don't currently need to sell more unless they can ramp up production. Even eBay is pretty dry, I keep an eye out there trying to grab one.

BTW, I think black CXL will look absolutely killer in that jacket, sort of Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men. Take a look at their label choices because I think they give you a choice of a few in that jacket, with a country motif being the standard.

Stronghold, in Venice, CA, has an enormous selection of Lewis jackets.

The chest patch/label is a deal breaker for me.

Thanks for clearing that up, once I could search on The Stronghold I was able to find some pics of their selection. I'm not a fan of the patch either but I think on an older jacket where it's a bit beat up to wear on the bike I'd be ok with it.

Will they get rid of it on MTM orders? I would've sworn I've seen LL jackets without it, but I could be mistaken

@LA Guy do you still have an order with Johnson Leather for the bison moto? Just how many leather jackets will you have once you secure an order on the Aero, and Cyclone?:satisfied:
