Thank you very much for those who have weighed in, I really appreciate it.

I am travelling to Chicago a few weeks from now, so I will try to poke around some of the usual suspects to see if I can find anything. It is usually stocked by Saks... and Neiman... any others in particular?

Again, thank you for the information.

Depends on what you mean by boxier, I mean Dior Homme and now SLP are cut in a box shape, just a very thin box. The old jackets are drapier and the new ones have a more current slim fit, meaning they're slim all over. Mine is deer (produced for A/W 06) and it is def different from the current offerings (I'm usually a 46 although with Margiela I oscillate between 44 and 46 and the 5zip is a 44, in the new ones I'd probably prefer a 46 so tts).

Any idea why they're used for women's and not for men's?

Barney's is probably your best "big store" bet. I don't know enough about boutiques in the Chicago area for other suggestions.

Do people generally prefer lambskin or calfskin? Which is considered higher quality?

calf is normally stiffer and thicker, you can have thick lamb although it won't be as stiff.

Calf is basically raw denim & lamb is like soft wash denim.

    Depends what you like (rigidity).

Lambskin is generally lighter, has better drape, and is easier to wear

I own a calf leather, and I love it. However, it's very heavy and had an odd drape at first. It wasn't uncomfortable, but it took over 3 months to break it in

Nice jacket but Belstaffs just aren't worth what they charge these days. Hope you didn't pay full retail.

Sadly my grail biker is a long way down my kopping list...

Luckily I've got some great bespoke piecesv(Japanese Calf/Spanish napppa, navy gloving leather), so I'm not in a hurry, although the doeskin toile has been made already!!!
