Ahh, the raw denim culture of the early 2010s- good times... I remember some dude posting pics of himself doing an "ocean wash", which was just basically wading around in the breakers. The catch was that he did it at some sketchy beach where the water was brown. Then he let them dry in his closet, because, you know, sunlight overheats the cotton and damages the fibers. Plus, it ruins the fadez, bro.

Anyway, a couple of weeks passed and he started posting questions about how to get rid of the foul smell in his jeans (without washing them, of course).

Makes me a bit nostalgic for my first pair of selvage jeans, Momotaro 1005SP (classic straight fit, sized down 0).

Even in those days, I wore RRL straight legs and washed. I couldn’t accept the call to downsize 6 or wear skinny jeans; it was aesthetically repellant.

In leather news, it looks like in addition to the ugly ass merchandise jackets, Harley Davidson has started selling a high end Vanson repro of one of their classic double riders on their website. Looks like it just sold out, but I imagine they’ll restock soon enough.
Cycle champ is a cool model, they kept the classic proportions (@peachfuzzmcgee). Real McCoys did one back in the 90s as well that pops up on the used market now and again.

My MTO Aero/Thurston Ridley arrived today. Fantastic jacket with great range of motion between the high armholes and shoulder gussets.

It’s very slim— and is a great illustration of the difference between a slim jacket, which is cut straight through the torso, vs a V-shaped jacket like a Perfecto, which will never fit this way even if you downsize.

As the owner of a Ridley, I am of course interested in pictures ;)

I shall have to take them, but probably best after some wear/break in (not that Vicenza requires break in), since the first day is probably the worst any jacket is going to look! (And it looks fantastic, but the drape will settle better soon.)

I haven't really worn it, except in the house since it arrived earlier today.

The biggest crime was telling every sucker to go swimming in the ocean while wearing them.
Truth be told, if you had the right body type, soaking them while wearing gave a result that just could not be duplicated. It was an old school punk thing. Isn't there a scene in Quadraphina where he does it?

Not the same thing as the “ocean soak” at all. The latter came about about ten years ago as a “safe alternative” to washing by crazy people who would also write posts about how awful their families were for washing their literally crapped in jeans.

Wearing jeans to soak has been around for ages, though it wasn’t really part of the punk scene, which was 505 dominant. (505s, being sanforized, don’t shrink.) They would however bleach/lighten jeans.

That said, wearing jeans wet actually tends to give you a pretty poor shape, with baggy knees and so on. Real molding of jeans comes with washing and wearing (the denim will both shrink and stretch according to your body type from wears).

what leather did you get?

overall this looks good but I am not a fan of the lining, the two zips on back and the snaps on back. Those 3 would be a deal breaker for me.
a 1.4/1.5 mm japanese cowhide called Souther.

i provided the lining and hardware. The maker offers standard cupro lining without an upcharge.
