You have very different styles of buying, though. For you, it's like a guy walking down the street at a food festival. You're already strolling down the avenue enjoying a hot dog, a chili dog, and a corn dog, but you see an Italian sausage at the next stall that looks really good and you convince yourself that one would really hit the spot.

For him, it's like flipping through 800 potential matches on Bumble or what have you, going to dinner with 50 women he has a general attraction to and sitting there at dinner with a magnifying glass examining the shape of their eyebrows and the length of their nails.
I like how you compared this yo dating, I’d argue it’s easier to find the perfect leather jacket :p

Who said I'm looking for just one garment? I'd like a variety of cool leathers, say 3 or 4.

Also looking into a Buco J-100, fight me.
It’s been really incoherent. Buying an essentially standard jacket in sizing that usually only fits Japanese men because it has striped lining seems… unwise.

Is there a reason you haven’t considered doing something like an Aero order through Thurston? Would cover all your needs from striped lining (Ridley pattern with “motorcycle jacket“ aka Perfecto pockets) to Buco J-100 to field jackets, with the fit dialed in before you make your custom order.

frankly I think the Aero route is even worse, getting an MTM and having that not fit is a pain. Everyone on TFL has fucked up at least 1 MTM aero order.

Even with the Thurston 'try on the jacket first' route?

IIRC Thurston even lets you buy a RTW jacket and, if you decide you want a custom, send it back with fit notes and pay the difference (if any) for your custom options.

I agree with your point about messing up orders, by the way, but ordering an old LE jacket from Japan isn't exactly easily returnable (like ordering the Schott 613S would have been).
