Leather jacket length

Hi all, I'm new here. Just wanted to get some feedback on leather jacket length, specifically biker style. Pretty much every piece of advice I read is that the jacket must not under *any* circumstances fall below the belt line. Trouble is pretty much every single jacket I have ever tried falls around my jeans pockets, which is about two inches below the bottom of my belt, and pretty much every make I see has very similar jacket lengths for each respective size. I have a short torso and longer legs for my size. The only way I think I'd be able to get one that lands perfectly on the belt line is by having one custom made to a 23" back length, which isn't too realistic a monetary proposition right now.

Can the gurus here give any advice about whether the general wisdom is that there is *some* leeway allowed depending on torso length etc? I don't *think* my jackets look too long on me, but now that I've read more advice it's got me paranoid I'm committing some sort of faux pas!

I wouldn't call it a faux pas. Faux pas assumes you're breaking some social norm. This is more about aesthetics.

Historically, true biker jackets don't fall below the belt line because they're meant to be comfortable when you're seated. Double riders and cafe racers are generally short, and double riders even shorter than cafe racers.

Nowadays, some fashion designers have reinterpreted those silhouettes, as people don't wear them on a bike. For example, Schott has countless double rider models with different lengths. If you're wearing the jacket just for fashion purposes, then you might feel weird in a very short jacket, especially if you wear your shirts untucked. Depending on the shirt, a lot of material can show below the jacket.

Hard to give advice on this without seeing a photo of you in the jacket. Think more about the aesthetics. Look up photos of people wearing motorcycle jackets well and save those photos. Develop an eye for the look you're trying to create.
