I received a very nice leather jacket as a gift recently, but unfortunately it is too big for me by a fair bit. I'll need to shorten it (currently goes well past my belt level), take in the body by several inches, and take in the sleeves as well (the circumference). Plus I may need to shorten the sleeve by an inch or two. The only thing that might be ok is the shoulder.
I know it almost sounds like I'm better off just donating it to the salvation army or otherwise giving it away, but it has very high value both from a monetary perspective and from a sentiment perspective (a beloved family member gifted it to me). Even if the alteration cost over $100 or $200, it would be worthwhile.
As such, does anyone have a recommendation of a tailor in New York, preferably in Manhattan? Also if anyone has a ballpark idea of how much this type of job might cost, please break the bad news to me.
Many thanks for any wisdom anyone can share.
