Leather Handbag conditioner?

So I picked up a beautiful leather messenger bag but noticed it's a little dry in some places. Is there a certain type of leather conditioner I can use on it? I tried using a shoe one on a small area and noticed that it darkened that area (even after a few hours of drying). Can I use a vehicle leather conditioner? I have some good quality ones but I'm not sure if the leather used would be a different grade etc.

How old is the bag? It looks old, or was it made to look aged?

My local cobbler says Meltonian for leather bags. Others say Lexol. Glaser designs says Nivea lotion (the same one humans use).

Those look old so are you sure the leather just isn't faded? It would look darker if you conditioned it since it gives back that moisture. If you wanted to keep that color, maybe Lexol since it's very thin.

On my attache, which is a thicker calf skin, I use what I use for my shoes, Sapphir's Renoveatur (sp?). If I've got some scratches on it, I hit it with some regular shoe polish too.

Will Meltonian cause any darkening of the leather at all?

Picked up some Meltonian over the weekend. It works great. Doesn't darken the leather whatsoever.
