Leather Care-Iron Rangers

I apologize if this question has already been answered, but I was unable to find information using the search function. I recently purchased a pair of copper Red Wing Iron Rangers. After a few weeks of regular wear there are some noticeable marks on the boots. I purchased a bottle of Leather Honey Leather Conditioner and a tin of Red Wing mink oil, but have no idea what I'm doing, and am fearful of ruining my first pair of nice boots. My goals is to mitigate any damage/bruising already done, and prevent future water damage. Am I able to accomplish this with the abovementioned products? If so, how should I go about applying the mink oil and/or conditioner? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
