A good friend of mine is getting married and I'm in the wedding party. Instead of tuxes my friend would like everybody to simply buy a black suit. He would like the whole party to go to Men's Wearhouse so that everybody has the same suit. You can imagine my horror.

I have the opportunity, though, to convince him to buy elsewhere. The wedding party has people of various economic levels but for the most part this will be the only suit they'll own, and the theme is "inexpensive".

So, what are my choices? Men's Wearhouse, Brooks Brother 346 line, Jos Bank, a toga?

Lord, what a dilemma. I'd go with Jos A. Bank, you'll be able to score a nice deal this time of year and it will be vastly superior than MW.

How old are most of you? The forum consensus is that a black suit is only useful for evening wear, especially clubbing, so if you're at the traditional marrying age, why not go for something fashion-forward like H&M?

Have you tried talking him into navy or charcoal? And if the point is just for everyone to cheaply look the same, why pay more than Target?

I'm sure your friend is a good person but is he aware it is very poor manners to insist on people buying a specific type of clothing to attend his wedding?

Another thing I am a bit sensitive about is people who are *a little bit* more well off than their friends tend to want to have their weddings in exotic locations when they know it would be expensive for their friends to come. Sure it might be the happiest day of your life, but you're really asking your friends to finance your fantasy.

Honestly, from my experience with weddings and trying to get a bunch of losers to "dress up," and since I probably wouldn't want to "invest" in a black suit myself, I would steer everyone to JC Penny, hold my nose, get everyone suited up there, and move on.

The online catalog shows worsted wool two button "suit separates" with your choice of pleated or plain front pants for less than $150. You can wear it once and forget it, save your money for something nice. _They_ can wear it once a year when they need to dress up for the rest of their lives unless they get fat.

Honestly, I would rather go anonymously to JC Penny's than to have to deal with the predatory sales people at Men's Warehouse.

He's not requesting that the guests are dressed alike, just the groomsmen in the wedding party. All weddings I've been involved in (including my own) insisted that the groomsmen/bridesmaids dressed alike.

It is a younger crowd that is still (somewhat) growing out of clubbing and black is the preferred color for that scene.
