I will be graduating in the spring and as a gift for finishing I want to get myself a nice watch.

Qualifications:
Material: Preferably rose gold (I used to be a silver metal only person, but lately rose gold has really grown on me). Leather(alligator?) strap.
Shape: Tank style (I have small wrists (app. 6" around) and find tanks suit me more than other shape (although the right watch in a different shape could easily sway me)
Movement: Automatic (although more knowledgable people could instruct me whether or not this would be wise)
Complications: I don't really need all that much. I prefer simplicity, so no chronographs or mutliple time zones. Date and maybe moonphase.
Aestetic: As mentioned, I prefer simpler and cleaner watches that are not big in size (neither width nor thickness).
Budget: I would be really stretching it at $4000. I would prefer to keep it $3000 or under.

Here are some watches that I've found attractive in the past:
A Lange & Soehne

Audemars Piguet Edward Piguet 25925oro0001cr01 Rose Gold

Audemars Piguet Edward PIguet 15121bc-o-0002cr-02 White Gold

LANG & HEYNE Johann (Kong von Schsen)

Patek Philippe Gondolo (5109r) Rose Gold

Zenith Class Elite Automatic Rose Gold

Zenith Class Elite Automatic Rose Gold

Thanks for any input and advice, as I am fairly new to high end watches, although I am learning as much as possible and spending time on www.TimeZone.com.

I'm another white-metal-only-turned-rose gold person. I like that Lang & Heyne very much, but could you really find any of these watches for $4k?

I don't think so, but I just put them up there as an indicaton style-wise of what I was looking for.

Zach, it does not have to be new as I completely understand that far better deals are to be had in the vintage market. That being said, I'm a little, for lack of a better word, apprehensive about going vintage mainly because of upkeep concerns. It would be nice to get a warranty with the watch, but at the same time for the price of the watch you posted I could get two and not have to worry.

Incidentally that is exactly the kind of watch I would be looking for. If anyone else has any other ideas or favourites of their own please don't hesitate to share.

You can find Jaeger-LeCoultre Reversos used, but in excellent condition in your price range. The "entry level" Reversos actually start around $4000-ish, sometimes even lower. Take a look here for some ideas.

And congrats on your upcoming graduation.

You have posted this question in the forums over at timezone.com, right?

edit: Where are my manners? Congratulations on graduating! Are you at UBC Vancouver or are you over in Victoria? I still have a year at UW Seattle before I have to make my own money. You poor bastard

Hossoso, I'm in Victoria. We get much better weather than Vancouver. Motivation is difficult to come by when the end is in sight. Incidentally, anyone want to write a secured transactions exam next week? It'll be fun, I promise.
