Dear Folks:

Saw some Lauren suits in a thrift store today, one a brown DB chalk stripe that made me look like a 1930s banker; v. nice but nothing I need to look like lately (I write plays).

Suit was lightly fused, decent fabric, didn't check the details.

Where is Lauren in the RL hierarchy? Above Chaps I hope, and below RLPL and probably Blue Label as well, but is it above or below Polo, and by how much? Where is it sold at retail? If dept. stores, what class of them? What do the suits usually go for?

I am almost positive that when people refer to RL blue label they are referring to polo. But Lauren is definately below blue label/polo.

Also, in my opinion, the Lauren line is on par with Chaps at the bottom of the RL totum pole.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that RL has leased out the "Lauren" name to Jones New York.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
