When it comes to white dress shirts, or light colored ones. I just wanted to know what cycle do you use on the machine and detergent?

I inquiring because I read in this months GQ magazine that it's not always good to take your dress shirts to the cleaners (similar to suits).

So I wanted to know if you guys had any special methods in regards to laundering and drying shirts.

woolite, delicate or hand wash cycle. No dryer, just hang dry. Iron with a really nice steam iron. If you do put it in the dryer, I wouldn't go for longer than 2 minutes or so. The tumbling action will make fabric fade.

When I first saw this thread I was thinking why would criminals want to launder dress shirts, until I realized I was an idiot.

Are you serious that you're not susposed to just throw cotton dress shirts into the washer and then dryer? I've always done that and I haven't ruined a shirt yet. I don't wear them 5 days a week though.

They will wear out much faster and will shrink a hell of a lot more if you put them through the dryer. If that hasn't bothered you so far, then consider yourself lucky.

Also, a shirt put through the dryer will never iron out as well as one allowed to air dry to damp, then ironed. So people go buy starch to try to get them looking good, but that shortens the lifespan even more.
