I haven't had time to do attend too many tastings lately but I've made a promise to myself to attend an offline party held by 1 or 2 of the wine forums this year (Wine Spectator, ERobParker, etc.) in VA or DC, so I can enjoy a variety of the good stuff for a change [IMG] I've also decided to sniff out 2 types of wine this year... the best 'everyday' red I can find for under $15, and stocking up on some special occasion stuff- the stuff that only gets pulled out a couple times a year. I bought 2 375's of 01 Rieussec Sauternes earlier this week; I'm also going to grab some 375's of NV Krug Grand Cuvee to try...

It may be too late now to get tickets, but tomorrow (Saturday, April 9) is the Bassin's MacArthur Liquors California Cabernet Barrel Tasting. This year, it's being held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in downtown DC. Details are at www.bassins.com. I never miss it -- it's a great gathering of wine geeks and an amazing opportunity to taste futures of Californai cabs (2003 this year).

For the best $15 red, I rather like Julia Vineyard Cambria Pinot or Arcadian SLH Pinot, for a cab, perhaps the Columbia Crest Reserve but its difficult to find a good cab for $15. Andrew Murray Syrah, or Au Bon Climat, Babcock Tri-County or Acacia Pinot are also decent values at about $15/per.

    The 2001 Rieussec is awesome.

This was drizzt3117's last post. Maybe one of them did him in. Or maybe he drank one and experienced enlightenment, revealing to him all man's folly, so quit clothes, booze, and Vegas altogether.

BTW, linux-pro dropped off around the same time.

Weren't those two supposed to meet in Orange County?

Sorry, still around, was on a whirlwind tour of Japan, HK, Singapore, and China for the past 10 days, and since I've gotten back, been busy preparing for my favorite day of the year this Friday... and my last post was YESTERDAY if you hadn't noticed.

I haven't seen linux around for months,

Villa Mt. Eden makes a pretty good cab, which I've been able to get for $13 a bottle on sale here in Ohio (which means that on the west coast, you should be able to get it for $9-10). I'd say it's maybe one notch above the Columbia Crest, which is also a favorite of mine for everyday drinking.
