Got fired tonight. At 5:30. After I spent a week writing a federal motion that they will prob charge the court a few thousand dollars for. A day after I saved our client thousands on a punitive damages issue that was being asserted by out Harvard Law 20 year vet opposition. A day after I went to court whereas most of my colleagues will not even be allowed to call a client for the next few years. 27 y/o. Over one year experience, passed NY bar, decent school, published law review article. don't get call backs for $45k crap jobs after $200k education. They gave me a 2-week severance after I took 4 vacation days over the past year. I know it sucks out there. I guess this will only make me stronger. To all of those who post law school related questions...don't do it, I beg you for your own sakes, don't do it.

My sympathies for your trouble. I sincerely hope you find something soon if that is what you want. I remember some time back you considered taking off for a long vacation. If you didn't do it then perhaps now is a good time?

Best wishes.

same boat last week, brah. And let me tell you, having this time off has been amazing. True, I have no cash and cant do anything of value, but just the freedom has been grand. Spending just as much time finding a job isnt fun, but its all part of the ride. We need a support group.

wow, I'm sorry to hear about that. At least now you don't have to tolerate your bosses smoking in the office...

Heard this about the legal profession. Law schools are putting out record number of JD's at the same time that the number of jobs are decreasing. Sounds like a rough market out there

It is a rough market out there right now, not unlike after 911--right after I graduate from undergrad. Why is it that I always get out at the wrong time?

But, whatever. You just have to look in the right areas. I'm shooting for a gig in Asia right now, even when it doesn't pay a lot. In the mean time, Doc Review here I come! It's not too bad 'cause an admitted attorney gets $35-40/hr, with overtime.

Oh, and I hear Treasury is hiring attorneys for TARP right now. They're paying pretty well too. Come and get your share of the $700 billion.

Sam, that is a pisser. Do you have any objection to coming to the midwest? I have some connections to the ADL and Dem machine here. It's still **** work, but if you are truly desperate...

Sorry to hear about another person out of work. Remember, professionals are allowed to fail. They are just not allowed to give up.

I'm sorry to hear that. But if school has taught us anything, it's not to give up. Best of luck with finding something new. In the meantime, it's not a bad time to enjoy your freedom

Sorry to hear about the job loss. I say take a small vacation, and get back to some serious job hunting. Hopefully you will find something better and this will be good in the long run.

What kind of firm? What kind of law? Were you the only one to go? (I've read that large firms are laying off a lot of lawyers right now).
