Hi gents.
I am looking for a pair of plain black captoe oxfords with a last shape similar to the C&J 348 (elongated toe, very sleek low profile, waisting) within a $150-$200 range. As a grad student starting out in the corporate world and just receiving my first real paycheque I thought it would be best to start investing in some proper shoes, but it is still a stretch before I can afford to drop $350+ on a pair of shoes. I know that I will be sacrificing some leather quality and workmanship in this price range, but what I am looking for is the best value I can get within this range.

I have done a bit of research and only managed to find the Loake Dorchester on the Mayfair last being somewhat similar, but I'm not crazy about how it looks. Also, I think AE's are out of the question as they all seem a bit too blobby for me. So feel free to fire away any suggestions thanks!

maybe have a look at the alfred sargent premier 104 last.

I have the chatham on that last and while the toe cap is a bit higher, the general shape is somewhat similar.
