About a month ago, I purchased a pair of light brown herringbone linen trousers from Lands End. At the time they seemed like a reasonably priced way to add some light brown linen to my summer wardrobe. After wearing them once, I'm starting to think that the large scale herringbone pattern makes for a somewhat incongruous look. It reminds me of some tweeds and other herringbone winter sport coats and just seems a bit seasonally inappropriate to wear in the summer even if it is linen. Pants are linked to below (unfortunately, I did not get a picture of me wearing them):

Am I way overthinking this or is there something to be said for avoiding certain patterns in the summer regardless of fabric? Currently I am thinking of relegating these to wear during warm fall days but I want to be sure I am not being overly paranoid. Would appreciate some thoughts from others on the forum. Thanks.

Appreciate the thoughts everyone. I'll keep them in the summer wardrobe for now.

    Take a deep breath.

    It'll be ok.

    They are just pants.

Wear them whenever you feel like it.

I realize they are "just pants," but hell, we could say the same thing about all clothing and then what's the point? I was soliciting opinions on whether the pattern was seasonally appropriate. I know that I can wear them whenever I feel like it; I wasn't sure initially whether I should.

You can't. I love the free hemming for Lands End items (and they get it done really quickly too).

After seeing the pic above those reviews on the LE site are spot on - those pants are way more gold than the LE pictures let on. Not sure how I feel about the color but the pattern is totally fine.

The pants and jacket in herringbone and the other plaid pattern Irish linen have this verdigris undertone that is most unfortunate. I sent a suit back. The undertone is not visible on the website pics.

    to follow up on this.

I got these trousers. Fit was great, material was pretty decent, but the fabric was too goldish for me to keep them.

I did also get a pair of the navy linen/cotton blend and am very fond of them. same fit, quality, etc, but in a nice color. ended up getting another pair in sand.

Worth going with the DB blazer and the pants for a DB suit?
