Lapels without Button hole?

Do all suits require a button hole on the lapel?

I have a Khaki suit that doesn't have one...should I get a tailor to add one in?

If it's a more casual jacket with thin lapels, then it probably doesn't need them.

If it's a suit, it should have one, but perhaps again the lapels are very thin (in which case a flower would look silly).

Well, it's a suit with matching khaki pants...but it does have thin lapels - I was considering having a tailor add a buttonhole there.

It's a really nice summer suit.

In my own personal Hell, none of the jackets have buttonholes.

My Jil Sander suits/jackets do not have them.

A sign of shoddy craftmanship?

As superfluous as a pocket square? I think not.

no, but likely a sign of a "fashion suit" in most cases. I don't believe in them (you can see this on other brands like varvatos, rag & bone, etc. suits.). I put it right up there with fused lapels, machine-mass-produced goods that I don't care for myself. One of the few noticeable details you can actually put on a suit are handstitched buttonholes on the lapel, front, and sleeves so why would you want to forego such a detail? thom browne suits have very narrow lapels, but a nice buttonhole in them, for example.

So should I get the job done to add the buttonhole on the lapel?

I've noticed other high end brand named Khaki suits like DKNY don't have the lapel buttonhole.

Look, whether to have buttonhole on the lapel is up to you. Most people would not notice anyway.

For what it's worth, DKNY is NOT considered a "high end suit" on this forum; far from it. It is less low end.

And Jil Sander suits (my MTM one I'd dare say) has some handwork to it and there is no lapel button hole because it would be a distraction. The Jil Sander look has no reason for one to be there since it would never be used.
