Langham hotel boston (formerly le meridien)

I need a hotel for a couple of nights in Boston after my wedding, before jetting off for the honeymoon. I'd go with the Ritz, but the prices are a bit steep being that we are really splurging on the honeymoon. I've found great rates for both the Langham Hotel and the new Onyx Hotel. Both are 4-star hotels, though I know nothing too specific about either, and was thinking maybe somebody here had some good info.

No I have not stayed there, but when I was in Boston last I stayed at the Boston Harbour Hotel, which is very nice.

I would recommend the Eliot. It is an all suite hotel on Commonwealth & Mass. Ave. It is very nice and rates are fairly reasonable. I am sure they will take care of you when you check in. I am not a big fan of the Le Meridien. You may also want to consider staying at the Bostonian, in Quincy Market. The Boston Harbor Hotel is nice, but for that coin I would stay at the Four Seasons. If you choose the Four Seasons, let me know and I will call a friend that works for the chain to put you an the VIP list. Usually good for an upgrade to an executive suite. (offer only open to honeymooners, don't want to abuse it as I regularly take advantage.)

Obviously, the Four Seasons would be a better bet, but I was of the opinion that the Boston Harbor Hotel was significantly cheaper than both the Four Seasons and the Ritz-Carlton, clearly I was wrong.

I would have preferred to stay at the Ritz-Carlton as that is my regular in Boston, but last time it was fully booked

Especially during the summer when the water location carries a premium. The BHH can fetch up to $100 more per night for similar accomodations at the FSH and RC.

My knowledge of Boston geography must also be poor, I thought that I was quite badly located at the BHH, Back-Bay and Copley Place seemed to be the center, and where most of my meetings took place. I did like the service at the BHH a lot though, and the concierge was the best and most informative I had seen in N. America. May I ask, where are you going for your honeymoon Johnny?

Originally we were scheduled to go to a small beachside resort perched between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Mexico in November (hurricane season in September -- our wedding is last weekend in August), with a short vacation somewhere immediately after the wedding. But, job plans got altered a bit, so now we're going to Hawaii (Kauai/Maui combo trip) with a short respite in San Diego. Not quite as exotic as the Mexico trip, but we won't have to worry about the water.

'Tis true. We actually are staying at some beautiful properties on the islands so it should really be wonderful. The San Diego respite breaks up the trip nicely and we are staying at a family members beach house there, which saves us some $ as well.

I've stayed at the Langham a number of times. Someone told that it's housed in a former Federal Reserve Bank branch (or something along those lines); as a result, it has a very old-school Boston Brahmin feel to it, at least in the barroom. The rooms I stayed in were of decent size, with very high ceilings and nice details.

I stayed in the Boston Harbor hotel a few weeks ago. The rooms were decent, but I thought the Langham had a better vibe to it. Also, if you do stay there, make sure your room is on the harbor side of the building. I had a high-floor room on the opposite side, which overlooked one of the many Big Dig projects still in process.

Regardless, both of those places seem like odd choices for a pleasure trip, as they are both more or less in the financial district of Boston. There's not a lot going on down there after 6pm (or even before 6pm, as my NYC-based co-workers and I always marvel when in town on business). I guess Fanuel Hall is a short walk from both, but that's not much of an attraction.

Might I recommend the Charles Hotel in Cambridge? A charming little place right off of Harvard Sqaure. Cambridge is a neat little town, and Boston proper is a five-minute T ride away.

Anyway, congratulations. I just got back from my honeymoon myself. We went to Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and stayed at La Casa Que Canta. I couldn't recommend this place more highly for someone looking for a honeymoon destination.
