Land's End Shoes

It looks as if Land's End has revamped (no pun) its shoe lineup. They have some nice-looking versions of basic designs: a bal captoe, a plaintoe, a monk strap, and a penny loafer in particular appear attractive to me. All are now $150. Anyone tried one of these new models?

Haven't tried them, but called to ask who makes the shoes for them.  They wouldn't tell me, but did disclose that they're made in China (at least the oxford I asked about.  Some others are listed as made in Brazil).  Told me its not unusual for a company to get the calfskin tanned in France and then ship it to China to have the shoes constructed.

I decided to give them a pass after reading many excellent posts concerning shoe construction, styling, and opinions of quality for various brands (I encourage you to check out some of the posts).  After wearing shoes similar to those offered by Lands End for years (and throwing them away when the soles wear out) I'm now convinced that buying good shoes, taking care of them, and getting them resoled periodically is the way to go.

BTW, I'm a longtime fan of Lands End. I think they deliver excellent value and they're the only place I've found that provides "off-the-rack" clothes that are a reasonable fit for my "custom" body.
