What are everyone's thoughts as far as these two are compared

?

Other than price of course, what seperates these two brands for everyday wear?

Obviously Brooks tradition, reputation, and name brand call for a more premium price but I have read of SF members that Lands End offers a darn good shirt, especially given their price.

Does Brooks make a shirt of such better quality and last that it justifies the price jump and can anyone speak of Lands tendency to either hold up or wear down over time?

If you type in "Lands End" or "Brooks Brothers" into the Google custom search bar at the top of the page, you will see dozens of threads on this topic.

I've seen both good and bad from both companies. I think you need to be more specific regarding which product lines you're looking at, etc.

You can return anything to Lands' End so if there's something you're interested in from them, why not order it and make a decision yourself as to whether it meets your requirements.

The cut of Lands End tailored fit (for me) is pretty great actually. Better than anything BB offers. I wish their shirts came in more styles/colors.

This is not true of the oxford cloth must-iron shirts, which are made in North Carolina with Japanese oxford cloth. Lands End are made in the far east of fabric that I believe is from China and is in my opinion somewhat inferior.

I've found the Lands End Trim and BB Slim fit about the same -- i.e., not tents, but not slim enough to satisfy the super skinny. Thankfully, they work for me quite well.

I wear a lot of LE, and have only one BB shirt. I think that the "Tailored" fit of lands end is pretty good, but the width of the midsection varies wildly across different styles and fabrics. If you find a fit that works for you in the sleeves, shoulders, and neck, you can have a tailor trim up the midsection/waist for cheaper than the difference in prices. That said, I don't think BB has the perfect fit for me either.

As far as the fabric, I can't tell a difference, but I'm no expert. LE is head and shoulders above Gap, say, or other mall brands, but Brooks has that je ne sais quois.

For myself, I can't justify the BB price when there is an LE version available.

I like Lands End's casual shirts -- flannels and such -- but the LE dress shirts I've seen have felt a bit cheap. Admittedly, I haven't tried many, so there may be nicer out there. But I ordered a couple of their more upscale offerings and returned both, finding the cloth lacking.

Brooks still makes some nice shirts. I bought two over the weekend, both made in the U.S. and both in a nicer cloth than any I've seen from LE.

That said, Brooks' luxury line is much more expensive than LE's priciest stuff, as far as I know, so it's all relative.

As recently as 2008 LE's Portuguese Flannel cotton shirts were made of cotton flannel woven, oddly enough, in Portugal and sewn in Honduras. These feature full single needle construction which includes 'French seam' side and sleeve seams and top-stitched front and back yoke edges. About 18 stitches per inch topstitching. A bit short. Relatively standard sizing. Decent buttonholes, faux horn cross stitched cup buttons. Brooks type chest pocket. Fully constructed buttoned sleeve gauntlet. Have a half dozen tartan BD for casual Winter wear. Not familiar with other recent LE shirts.

Brooks Brothers employs some 200 (2009) in the U.S. @ its Garland Shirt Co. and also imports.

I have two or three of those and wish I'd bought more. Didn't find anything of interest last fall.

I bought a few of the approx. $14-on-sale LE ocbd must-iron shirts. I do feel that the fabric isn't nearly as nice as on a $65-on-sale BB ocbd. But at the price, I added a few extra colors of ocbd to my wardrobe and think they are a decent value.

Comparing the "custom shirt" feature available on their respective websites, LE made a lot more fit options.
