I was looking at this Styleforum thread from seven years ago and found the perceptions of the knit tie in there interesting. I was wondering, given the explosion in popularity of knitted ties now, what the opinions were on whether they look better mitered or flat across the bottom, I'm looking at a Kent Wang two-tone and the site offers a choice of either option. Thoughts?

Personally I love the look of a knitted tie, but simply cannot stand the flat bottom - which is annoying as most of them do tend to be,

To me, it always just looks like someone has cut the bottom off,

Both can look good. I have about 7 knitted ties, and they're all flat bottom, and I like it. It's something a little unique to have amongst all the pointed bottom warriors. Just comes down to personal preference.

I suppose the bottom is not seen most of the time, as the jacket is closed. When one sits, the bottom would likely show. Maybe with the lack of a tip, one has to worry less about the tie hanging too low?

Neither is 'better' than the other, I think. It just depends on the intended effect. To my eye the square bottom is even more casual than the tipped. If that's what you want, wear it, if not, don't.

As usual, it's a question of coherence with the rest of the fit.

Cheers,
