So, I'm considering buying a cashmere sweater (or 2) that one size too large for me. I know that knitwear can be altered to some degree via blocking, before actual "alterations" must take place.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Every knitted garment is a little different. Some can be blocked up or down as much as two sizes.

Talk to a better dry cleaner that regularly performs knit blocking in your area. Better yet, do it in person with the sweater in hand. Make certain that you speak with the person that actually does the knit blocking. That person's answers may be dramatically different than the answers from the counterperson.

Although it is on the other side of the country from you and the waiting list is loooooooooong, these people have done excellent work for us.
