Knee-High Socks

Hi,
I was just wondering whether there is any consensus on who makes the finest knee-high socks for wearing with a suit. I purchased some Pantherella knee-high socks today at Bergdorf Goodman for $30 a pair. Is there one brand that is known to make the best men's socks to be worn with a suit and dress shoes? My suits are Oxxford, Zegna, and BB, solid colors only, and I only want solid colored socks.
Thanks,
s.s.

Please, the term is 'over the calf' not knee-highs. Girls wear knee-highs. Personally, at the high end I'd go for Abbaz and Kelly.

I don't think there's consensus, but Pantherella's gotta be up there.

I have a related question: besides Pantherella, who makes lots of patterned OTC socks? I prefer OTC socks, but most I find are solid coloured.

Already posted this in the other socks thread, but all mine are from Viccel, Nagrani or Marcoliani (with a couple of Pantharellas thrown in for good measure).

Thanks. Do you know where I can buy these Abbaz and Kelly socks in NYC?

Kabbaz and Kelly retired from the sock business earlier this year. A big blow to sock buyers the world over.

Perhaps the finest socks in the world are here, but very pricey. They give you the top sock experience.

Gallo also makes very good socks, but buy from their top line if you want the really good ones. Have gotten very pricey in recent years at 52 euro a pair for cottons, but they give you the top sock experience.

Bresciani is a good sock too, more affordable everyday sock. Keep Gallo tailoring line and William Abraham for your best socks.

I only wear over-the-calf socks and have a pretty vast collection. Besides the quality of the garments, a large number is also important for their durability: the more you have in rotation the longer they will last.

I always prefer wool (usually merino with some nylon) also in summer, as I feel better in them and also find that they are more durable.

As for the producers, I would recommend Bresciani, Sozzi, Ciocca, Palatino, Gallo (tailored line), Gammarelli (they provide garments for the clergy, few colours though), Pantherella, Falke (only the Luxury line), Mazarin (the own line from Mes Chaussettes Rouges).

The website Mes Chaussettes Rouges is an excellent source of good quality socks.

Finally I woud suggest to buy always garments in the proper size and never in the so-called one size-fits-all.

The William Abraham socks look very luxurious (they also offer quite particular, uncommon patterns), but really too pricey, even for a sock guy like me. Spending about $100 for a pair seems a bit excessive.

Bresciani and Falke are also very good. I also have Pantherella and like the m a lot

I also love my Pantherella pairs, especially the Naish model with fine ribs (curiously something that Italian producers don't offer). I guess they also make the socks for Turnbull & Asser, because they are basically identical.

They are too pricey, but Gallo tailoring line have increased so much in price that William Abraham now becomes an option for cotton silk socks (only special occasions though).

Do you like linen socks?

Has anyone ever tried Tabio's silk-cotton socks (link)? If I'm correct, the bottom is made from cotton (better anti-sweat properties I guess), while the top is made of silk for extra comfort
