I'd like to try my hand at antiquing, and I'd really like to use some of that rich purplish cordovan hue in my project. I'm wondering, however, if there is any chemical difference between polish made for shell and polish intended for calf? Is there any reason I shoudn't use cordovan polish?

DO you mean Kiwi Cordovan coloured polish or special polish for cordovan leather?

Oh I was just thinking of the Kiwi tin of Cordovan wax I saw at CVS, which i guess is cordovan-colored. The very existance of the distinction you point out probably answers my question...

If it is the latter I have used rather succesfully cordovan coloured shoe polish (IIRC Kiwi) on my Loding wholecuts (pics of them are floating somewhere on this forum).
