Borrelli prices cashmere/suede combo gloves @ $800 right here in America. So nothing should come as a suprise these days.
In terms of the retail scene in Moscow, about 3 years ago C&J handgrades commanded around $800.
The Maser Quattroporte below that was captured @ a Moscow display went for $180K.

Let's hope that neither matadorpoeta nor Manton see your photos of Putin's shirt sleeve cuffs after their little disagreement on Manton's Blazer Suit thread!

Perhaps I can explain why it is what it is in Moscow. Most people who have been living in large cities for generations in Russia own their apartments. Government gave them for free during soviet times and after. Thus, think about it if you made 70K a year (average salary in my area) you would pay 12% flat income tax on that and then the rest you can spend on Kiton ties. Why not?
Majority of Russians still frown on credit, mortgage and credit cards. They own their cars, houses and apartments. Thus salary of 70K in Moscow is probably = 150K in USA given difference in taxation and absence of debt.

But what is the percentage of population that makes 70K in Moscow?70K is what, almost 6K a month?I don't think a lot of people make that money,I don't know the stats, but average salary is like 2K a month, this is not to say that you can not make 5-10K,I just don't think that average person can make that much money.

You might be suprised but you virtually can't live within 200km of moscow unless you make this kind of money. dkzzzz is absolutely right many people got their apartments for free (just like my parents back in the day) and with a relatively low tax they can afford to live there. If you want to rent an apartment forget it. You probably have a better chance of finding a place you can afford on 35k/year in the upper east side NY. Regionalism in Russia almost reminds me of a strategy games when you would pile all the best units in one place and dominate its the same with the economy. People living in Moscow probably make more money then everyone else in the country.

I know that people who live in Moscow make signifantly more than people in the rest of the country,I just can't believe that 80-95% of Moscow makes 70K or more,it's just not possible. This would mean that 8 or 9 out of 10 people should make this much and I know a lot of people who live in Moscow that don't make this much.In fact,I am going to text my friend who lives in Moscow and get first hand info.

I believe there are lots of stupid fools willing to pay EUR 500 for a tie, including many Russian fools.

Unfortunatley my initial question remains unanswered. I am looking forward to the indictaion of a sound traveller who has seen the 500 Euro price tag on a Kiton tie in Moscow. Until then it is only a rumour.
