Khakis-Low on the Hip or High on the Waist?

I placed an order for Bill's cotton khakis a few days ago. Apparently, they come unhemmed, so I will take them to my local tailor or dry cleaner to get the leg finished. I"ve always gottten finished khakis before, so have never had much of an option.

I assume you do not get them cuffed. How high do you wear them? Low on your hips, like jeans, or high near your navel, like suit trousers?

Most people decide to cuff depending on whether the fronts are flat or pleated. The general rule is no cuff for flat fronts, and cuffs for pleated pants. No harm in straying from the above...it's all a matter of preference.

Where you should wear your pants is also a preference. I typically let the rise dictate where I'll wear mine. High rise trousers sit at my natural waist, whereas low rise at the hips. An additional consideration is whether you plan on wearing them with a shirt that's to be tucked in. Tucking in a shirt into pants that sit on the hips looks a bit odd to me...lengthens the torso too much. Thus, if I'm planning on tucking a shirt in, I'd like my trousers to sit high, at my natural waist, to lengthen the legs.

Bill's are meant to be worn at the waist.

I cuff trousers that are flat-fronted. Esp. on my J. Press suits -- and I think they look good this way.

Wear your pants on your WAIST.

Sophisticated men wear cuffs on their pants, and other sophisticated men notice. Cuffs are de rigueur with pleated pants especially suit trousers but they look great on casual pants too. They also serve a function of adding extra weight to the bottom allowing the pants to hang better.

If you're going to wear the pants for any dressy events go for the cuffs.

I don't think pants without a front crease should be cuffed. I don't know how your khakis are, but if they are uncreased like some are, they should be uncuffed. Otherwise it is up to you.

Bravo, leave the low iders to the women, nothing worse than a man wearing pants low and swaggy, looking as they are either to big or just not the right fit overall, personally I think guys wearing the low cut pants down look like they are trying to be phat, and it is just not cool or sophisticated.

I've sold Bills Khakis for about ten years and I agree that you should add cuffs to pleated and plain bottoms to plain front. Should you plan on using your Bills for Golf ( which alot of customers do, especially the poplin in summer ) I would then say no cuffs.
As a matter of experience, Bills will shrink after a few wearings. So, I normally send my customers home with their new Bills and have them wash and dry them a few times, then alter. If that is to much of a bother and you don't mind longer than normal fit for the first couple of cleanings, I will add one inch to my initial measurement.

Thanks for the replies. I ordered a flat front pair and a pleated pair so that will influence whether I cuff them or not (They are still on route.)

For what it is worth, I don't think I have ever purchased a pair of prehemmed khakis that were cuffed.
