I recently bought a pair of the benchgrade plain toe balmorals from Kent Wang. I really love the shoes but here's the problem: whenever I wear non-wool socks with them, the insoles squeak as I walk around. To clarify, there is not a squeak due to the construction of the shoe, but it's my cotton sock (marcoliani) that rubs against the leather insole. Yes, the shoes fit and are neither too long nor too wide. But the squeaking noise is VERY noticeable. Of course, I try to wear only wool socks with them, but I can't do that all summer in 90+ degree weather.

    ANY SUGGESTIONS?!

(Please don't tell me to buy "thin" wool socks. I shouldn't have to buy socks for THESE shoes. I should be able to wear ANY sock with them!)

I'm no expert but I would think the insoles are not secured to the shoe fully or extremely dry. See a cobbler. He/she should be able to secure or replace them as needed.

This might be an easy fix. Put in baby powder (talcum). Sounds dumb but it works.

Roll it around inside the shoe and then tap it out.

This happens to me on a couple of shoes including Peal and AE. I have to do this every couple of months.

I would see a surgeon and inquire about modifying your foot. Tell him the noise you are creating is not SF approved, and that immediate action must be taken. [IMG]

Kidding, the baby powder thing works.

Thanks all. I'll give the baby powder a go. Although, I am skeptical because I wore them today with wool socks and had no problems!

I believe the shoes are communicating with you.

They are saying: "Don't you dare touch us with your plebian cotton / polyester socks. It's wool or cashmere for us!"

I get the squeaks with my carminas and meermins. But never with my AE's or ferragamos

So, did you catch the mouse in your shoes yet?
