Hello everybody!

Aaron here, writing from New York City.

Now that we are in this strange, unprecedented time, I want to tell you how we're doing, what we can do for you and what we can't.

First, all members of the KW team are well. We live in many places across North America and Europe, so we are working a great distance apart from each other already.

The New York shop has been closed for over a week. This makes me sad, because I like seeing you, but the shop will be shut for as long as the government directs.

Otherwise, we are open for business. We remain at work and at your service. Our small warehouse in Texas is still shipping out orders and, more remarkably, our makers in most countries are still making. Over in China, where our suits are tailored, they are seeing the downward slope of the pandemic, and production & shipping proceed on schedule.

This season we have a larger than ever range of fabrics and options I will be showcasing in this thread, starting tomorrow.

For now, I would just like to remind you of some of our offerings to make our current home-focused life more enjoyable. For example:

comfy socks

cozy wool cardigans and cashmere V necks

classic minimal-style sneakers

and of course

our essential polos and rugbys

Check back tomorrow for more about the new MTM fabric offering.

And stay well.
Glad to hear you and the team are doing fine!

New shoes for the end of the world. The handgrades are really good looking shoes all around. I’d be more than happy to see a few more (non-museum calf) models.View attachment 1361753View attachment 1361754
Nice shoes! Why not museum calf?

STYLBIELLA

Today, I want to introduce you to a new fabric supplier.

As you know, in addition to our stock fabric collections, we can get any fabric in the world that is sold by the meter or yard. These cut-length, special-order offerings have greater range and more novelties than our stock collections, but cost more because the cloth seller rather than the suitmaker assumes the risk in making them, and also, when we purchase them, each length or small group of lengths must be cut, packed and shipped separately.

One other factor in the current crisis is where the fabric is stored, whether in the USA, the United Kingdom, Europe (mostly Italy) or China. Italian fabrics are generally the most interesting and sophisticated but Italy is closed for at least 10 more days.

Merchants weaving and storing their goods in Italy include:

Ariston, which has the most novelties and a great online presentation
Cacciopoli, which you can view on their own website and also on the site of their rep Merino Brothers in Hong Kong
Drapers, which only has a few cloths on their website. Vitale Barberis Canonico website has a small selection of their cloths with the Drapers codes included.

UK based merchants and mills include:
Abraham Moon, tweed specialist
Fox, flannel specialist
Holland & Sherry
Harrisons of Edinburgh, including Lesser, W Bill and other great names
Gladson, source great English cloths like Fresco and Italian ranges like Carlo Barbera...Gladson's English face, Huddersfield Fine Worsteds, has some more technical specs for many collections.

At the moment, most of these are closed :(

But not all merchants warehouse where they weave. One in particular is designed and woven in Italy (mostly with VBC) but is warehoused in China, where the management is (and where our suitmaker is located).

This is STYLBIELLA. Biella is a northern Italian city with a rich heritage of wool weaving, like Huddersfield in England.

The taste level is very high, and the pricing is very good, in part because most of the mill-to-maker shipping has already been done in bulk.

This season there are five books:

ALL SEASON SUITING: BOOK 1

SUMMER SUITING: BOOK 2

SPRING JACKETING: BOOK 3

SUMMER JACKETING: BOOK 4

SHIRTING: BOOK 5

I believe we are the first in the USA to have these fabulous books in digital form.

The lookbooks are the most elaborate I have ever seen, with model shots and swatches for suits, jackets, trousers, and shirts.

For example:

Screen Shot 2020-04-03 at 12.51.40 PM.png

Pricing is according to the number after the /backslash in the fabric code. So, for suits, jackets and trousers, it's like this:

/100BB
/120C
/130D
/141E
/150E
/160F
/164CL1
/180CL1
/193CL2
/220Cl5
/240CL8
/245CL11
/280CL31

Price chart at the bottom of this page

For shirts, pricing is as follows:

Price code
/10$125
/20$130
/30$135
/50$140
/54$150
/60$160

The first link to the All Season Suiting is not working unfortunately - or was at least for me. Here is the link in case someone received the same error: book.vitalitytex.com.cn/books/SS2020BOOK1/SS2020%20BOOK1.html

SHAWL COLLAR CARDIGAN CUSTOM ORDERS

We're announcing a soft opening of custom orders on our shawl cardigans. You guys have the first look before we post it on other social media. For now, you may alter the sleeve and body lengths. Sleeves can be altered up to two inches, body up to three inches. In the coming weeks we will be adding over 30 colors and more sizes. If you have a color in mind there is a good chance we will be offering it!

Please note that because these are custom, orders cannot be returned. We recommend trying on a RTW model first if possible. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery.

STRETCHY, COMFY, COZY -- FABRICS THAT MOVE continued

From Gladson, the Flex cotton and Flex Sport collections of stretch fabrics on a single card. Solids in cotton or wool are great for suits, jackets or trousers. The plaids on the right hand column are designed for jackets. The right hand column of solids are actually textured solids, designed for blazers. Cotton fabrics are D level, and all wool fabrics are CLel. Our price chart is at the bottom of this page. As always, write [email protected] with any questions you may have.

The shawl-collar cardigans are a steal at this price. I'm pretty certain I know the knitwear folks who crafted these and they are pretty amazing. Truly an heirloom piece.

I just realized you have a cardigan MTO program.

Could you comment on how length adjustments affect the position of the buttons. I would like to add 2 inches in length, do you add an extra button or move them down?

Do you offer MTM fabrics for polos? I love your solid polos, but would like to venture into stripes or other patterns if available for an upcharge.

We would slightly modify the placement and spacing of the buttons but the number of buttons would remain the same. I suppose if you end up wanting to add another button you could use the extra one that gets shipped with each sweater, but I would recommend keeping it as is.

I regret we do not have an MTM program for polos from our polo shirt maker.

We can make our shirts out of pique jersey knit fabrics with our woven shirt-maker, however. Please write [email protected] for further details.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
