So I was looking for a new pair of canvas shoes for this spring and summer. I was thinking about a pair of Ked's: nice, clean, classic looking. Anyway, I naturally go to their website and click on men's: $50 for their Men's Champion. Now, $50 isn't a ton of money, but I figured Keds were cheaper than that, $40 maybe.

I go back to the mainpage, and what do I see? $29.99 Canvas and $39.99 leather Champions! What's up with the price difference between men and womens? The men's special features simply tell me that I need to spot wash it if it gets dirty, which hardly seems like a selling point worthy of special feature status.

Would it be bad to order women's shoes? What's the conversion between the two? Am a fool for even considering Champions in the first place?

women's shoes typically run more narrow. sizing difference is usually 1.5; however i would contact the company to ask for their specific conversion.

the last shape is a bit different and I believe the Men's has a different and more substantial bottom/outsole than the women's version.

The women's are VERY narrow (which is why I decided to get them), lined with thin terrycloth on the inside, and have a thinner outsole. Also, they don't come up as far on the foot as the mens do. I wear 10.5 normally, and got womens size 12.

And, FWIW, the women's has 4 rows of eyelets, and men's has 5.

And (beyond white), the women's has contrast stitching, and the men's don't. The men's black even has black eyelets and sole (it's all-black).

you have to be careful when buying womens product.

you can easily start looking like a cross dresser.

I have to tell you, I was given a pair of the Champions (white w/ all over micro perf) by the Keds people and if they got anymore feminine I couldnt and wouldnt wear them.

it becomes a little strange to me.

Men.style has a decent write up on canvas kicks for summer.

Some pretty nice looking stuff on there, and some surprisingly cheap. Of course, looking at Common Projects is sort of cruel when I'm mulling over buying women's shoes to save $20.
