one thing i always wondered about - that really high collar of Karl's - is it a standalone collar or is it actually part of the shirt? I always thought it seemed more of the former to me.

Karl's style consistency rocks...and the fact he's always got pretty much the same expression on his face with those shades in EVERY photo.

Those tall collars hide a neckbrace he wears, the result of a soccer injury. Makes me think they are detachable.

Is that true? I wouldn't have imagined him to play soccer, or rather, football.

Bunny Roger used to say that stiff collars hid a "turkey neck".

I think your theory that it hides his turkey neck is probably true. I doubt it hides a brace, because he never wore one in the days before his diet (when he carried around that fan).

^I agree; for example he also wears those gloves and all that jewelry to hide his "old man" hands.

As for sports injuries, maybe he played soccer... but Karla the pampered son of the Bavarian Condensed Milk King, frequenter of H&K for shirts since the age of 16, keeper of the powdered coif extraordinaire... doesn't exactly strike me as the sort of youngster to enjoy sliding around in the muck to make a goal.

I want to be Lagerfeld as my alter ego/costume this Halloween. It will be fun to be him down in the Castro. It will also be easy to stay in character for me - which is the hardest thing to do to round out a great costume.
