    Hey all,
I just received a pair of Gordon Rush chukkas I ordered off of Gilt, and have a question on sizing. This is my first pair of chukkas and I wasn't sure how they fit, so I ordered the same size I wear in sneakers, an 11. Seems like a mistake as they feel rather large. Do you normally order smaller sizes for these types of things? How much space in the top of the boot should there be for a correct fit?

    Thanks!

Wear them around the house for a few hours/days. This lets the shoes soften up a bit and accommodate your foot. If you still feel like they are too large after that you should probably return them. If shoes are too large you will get lots of heel slippage when you walk. Heel slip will decrease as the soles of the shoes get a little more flexible.

If new shoes fit snug when I first put them on usually after I wear them for a while they start to feel too tight. If a shoe feels a little loose in the begining it generally feels better after wearing a while. Chukkas should fit the same as most regular shoes and having an inch or so between your big toe and the end of the shoe is normal.

Funny I just got a new pair of shoes and they felt somewhat loose when I first put them on. But I know that a smaller size would just end up being too tight. And after wearing them a while they feel fine. .

There's a good deal of room between my big toe and the top of the shoe, but I wasn't sure if this was how Chukkas were meant to fit or not. I'll take a picture and mark where my big toe is and post it up.

Depends on the style of the Chukka, some have longer/pointer toe boxes than others. How does the rest of the shoe fit? Best thing is to wear them for a while. .

I don't want to wear them too much if I'm going to return them...I don't want to be stuck with them. Here's the picture. The top of my toe = the top of my thumb.

Difficult to tell. It's how the rest of the shoe fits and heel slippage that is more important. There are many shoes out there with long toe boxes. You can wear the shoes around the house on carpeting for a couple of days and still return them as long as the soles are not marked up. If you really feel that they are too long and you are not comfortable with wearing them then by all means return them. Better to be safe than sorry. There are plenty of other pairs out there.

True. I'm going to wear them around tonight and tomorrow and see how they work out. Thanks for the help!
