Let's be serious - every bit of Eastern & Western science (and emprical evidence) has proven that humans are able to survive for weeks at a time without food, that shouldn't be surprising.

What IS surprising is that the anyone who does something like this claims to "do their research" - clearly you hadn't, because what you consider euphoria is actually a series of chemical reactions as your body goes into starvation/survival mode. True, your body may expel some of the "toxins" it had in it, but it is doing that solely as a fight or flight response. A better idea would be a raw food diet to let the body heal itself naturally.

Saying Americans are fat, lazy, and obese is one thing, and definitely true, however using that argument as justification for essentially starving yourself for 3 weeks is somewhere south of stupid.

I very much doubt this is even possible. You are either lying or suffering from delusions. Go see a doctor immediately.

I wish I had taken before and after photos.

how often would you drink water during this 20 day period?

I would continually sip throughout the day. I didn't drink as much as I thought I would have. Only about 48-64 ounces a day.

I'm curious to learn if this water diet included tap water, purified water, water distilled from maple trees, or a variety of waters.

I also wonder how this would be good for the skin. How does that make sense?

Distilled water, which is the best for flushing out toxins.

You have to understand how much energy the body uses for the digestion process. If you stop eating and let your digestive system shut down (after around 78 hours or so) your body now has this extra allotment of energy it can use towards things other than breaking down food and assimilating nutrients. The body is working at maximum efficiency and scours for dead and damaged tissues, and this was particularly true for my skin. Red marks faded, and a chicken pock scar I had on my ear since I was 6 has diminished in size.

I did not claim to consider my experience "euphoria", although it was euphoric. I know very well the neurology and endocrinology behind the process of fasting. I didn't do this to reach Jesus [IMG]

And are you saying my body wasn't healing naturally while fasting? Fasting is probably the purest way of letting your body do just that.

This was fasting, not starving. Starving occurs when all fat reserves have been depleted and the body begins catabolizing muscles and organs. Read: http://chestofbooks.com/health/natur...-Starving.html

Actually, your liver and kidneys are best at flushing out toxins. Unfortunately, they need energy and nutrients to function optimally.

Even if your body was doing less work as a result of the digestive system "shutting down" how is the body to repair itself without the proper materials?[IMG]

Stopped eating on November 30th and had my first bite of solid food today (an orange). Amazingly enlightening experience.

My body did a lot of healing during this period. Scars I've had for years disappeared, my skin is incredibly soft, vision improved, and I have more energy than I've had since I was a child. Mental clarity and calmness of mind has been elevated, and my intermittent bouts of depression are seemingly gone. Oh, and I lost 23 pounds.

All in all, I gained a great appreciation for the little things in life that really matter. But most of all, I gained back self control and willpower, which was my ultimate goal.

    OP ain't joking....I don't think...

my question is why the hell anyone would want to drink only water for 20 feckin days. I love food and drink too much to deprive myself....if you really think its good for ya ...well....i guess thats one more fella who wont be in line in front of me at the butcher to piss me off.

OP, I'd be interested in knowing your height/weight/body fat percentages before and after.

That's a pretty remarkable feat, imo. Supposedly you can survive on average 1.5 days/lb of fat. You did do some exercise so it makes sense that your demand would be higher. As well as the "cleansing" of your system.

Generally claims of elevated mental clarity in these situations are not backed up by actual performance increases, they are simply matters of perception. You feel like your brain is working better, likely because of wacked out brain chemistry caused by the fast.

As far as the distilled water business, that stuff really isn't all that healthy to drink. It'll actually leach minerals out of your body, since all the trace elements have been removed. Using reverse osmosis purified water would be a better idea if you're concerned about it. The whole "toxins" thing isn't backed up by evidence, but we can say for sure that you're screwing with your electrolyte balances, your bone calcium, etc by fasting and drinking only distilled water.

    Distilled water also tastes awful.

you can eat and still lose weight....it's called exercise[IMG] addtionally, you just need to watch what you eat.....or if you want to eat whatever you want, just make sure to exercise afterwards to burn it up. I do not know why this is so hard for some people to understand[IMG]

I wish I had taken before and after photos.

I wish you had too, then you would have realized it's all in your head and you wouldn't have posted this nonsense here, potentially encouraging some hapless internet fool to try something similar to this and die because their liver shuts down.

Of course, "toxins", the mantra of the new age idiot. Exactly what "toxins" were you flushing out with distilled water? None. Your liver filters out toxins, nimrod, not water. By depriving you body of essential nutrients you made your liver's job more difficult. I would wager even money that if you had taken an actual "toxin" blood test before and after your fast the level would have risen considerably.

This is the biological equivalent of the perpetual motion machine. Your body doesn't have an "extra allotment of energy" after you fast because you aren't consuming any additional fuel. You can't seriously believe this drivel, can you?

    What does this even mean?

Liar, liar, pants on fire. IF, and that's a big if, a scar on your ear diminished in size it's probably because your skin shrunk having been denied proper nutrition.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying.

    [/quote]

You cited the source "Fasting and Sun-Bathing for Healing Disease". Again, "FASTING AND SUN-BATHING FOR HEALING DISEASE". Do you not see the problem with your source?

Consider this rebuttal, written by an actual medical doctor, not someone convicted of practicing medicine without a license.

    http://www.quackwatch.com/01Quackery...turopathy.html

Look, don't misunderstand me, I'm not suggesting you have to stuff your face full of food everyday and the human body can survive all kinds of traumatic experiences and recover. But your suggestion that not eating for 20 days is in any way physically beneficial is ludicrous.
