Just Curious, what is this jacket for ?

Hello,

I was just wondering , this looks like a traditional horse riding jacket, but is this style
some sort of sportjacket and if so why is it black ?

I was looking at these the other day - IIRC, that's exactly what they're labelled as on the tag. If it's the same style I saw, the fabric is quite plush. The navy version is more attractive than the black. But I agree, they're neither fish nor fowl. Not quite a jacket, not quite a car-coat/overcoat either. I doubt they sold particularly well.

That's a hunting jacket. Perhaps you are used to seeing it in pink (scarlet), which is worn only by the Master of the Hounds and others at his invitation. That's an ordinary jacket, to be worn with fawn breeches.
