Joseph Homme and Gazzarini - good quality?

Does anyone have any experience with these brands? I've never seen them in actual stores, only online, so it's hard to tell the quality from pics.

Mid-tier designers - Joseph are a bit nicer than Gazzarrini. Pretty good, not amazing. Comparable to, say, Theory.

Joseph is like walking into a very upscale (and overpriced) GAP. Mostly they import women's clothes to the US but their SoHo store has men's clothes. My favorite sweater is a Joseph zip-up but they vary from season to season. Best for basics. I wouldn't trust their RTW suits and have never felt comfortable in the button-down shirt i bought (the color is beautiful.)

Hope that helps. The comparison to Theory is pretty spot on. Joseph might be a bit more conservative.

Just got a pair of Gazzarini linen pants in the mail. I'll write about them tomorrow, but they have gotten good reviews before.

Joseph is quite well made, slim cut stuff - for sportswear, anyway. Rather minimal. Don't know the suits or sportcoats. I have a shirt and a nylon jacket I like very much.

Gazzarini is another one of those fairly good sportswear brands that one finds in the New York area at Daffy's, where I lump it together with Grifoni, Victor Victoria, Domenico Croci and on the slightly higher end, Les Copains. Vestium Officina is in this Daffy's group as well, but their styling is often suspect.

The brands Daffy's sells may have different and distinct reputations abroad, but in the US they are fairly obscure.

All these brands are quite undervalued on ebay.

I suppose they're similar to Byblos or to the now very Burberry-effect Daks.

Gazzarini pants are linen, so the cut is extremely full. Construction is not noteworthy, for good or bad. Detailing is subtly fashion-forward. Overall not bad, wish I could have found them for less ($90 or so on yoox).

$90?!?!?!? Yikes.

Daffy's has all the brands I mention for about $60 tops, and often $20 by mid season...sometimes even less. I've gotten Les Copains for about $15.

I've no real opinion about Gazzarini, but Joseph Homme is what I call Minimalism lite. I think that the Theory comparison is apt. I can't recall a Joseph piece I've found that struck me as anything other than bland. The brand takes cues from Helmut Lang and Jil Sander, but without the stripping down aspect of the former, and without the beautiful materials of the latter, and without the crisp, distinctive silhouettes of either. Sometimes, pieces look like toned down versions of Calvin Klein or Donna Karan, which makes them really dull indeed.

Re: above: My Joseph Homme slim black nylon carcoat-length jacket is not quite the summit of anything, but it's way better than, say BR or any of the lower- price-point chains. It's black and well made and minimal and I can feel like a 90s Downtown Dude whenever I wish, in the cooler seasons.

My appreciation is of course influenced by price. My jacket came from ebay for about $20.

Yeah, would that I were able to get to retail establishments right now. Bought them in a fit of profligacy when I found a pair of velvet pants in my size for $30.
