Joseph Abboud Official Wardrobe Supplier of NBA Coaches Association
Last update: 10:47 a.m. EST Nov. 3, 2008
NEW YORK,, Nov 03, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Head Coaches will wear Joseph Abboud(R) courtside during games.
JA Apparel Corp., will be adding style to the basketball courts as the official wardrobe supplier of the National Basketball Coaches Association. The Head Coaches will wear Joseph Abboud made to measure tailored clothing, including suits, sportcoats, and dress trousers during games for the 2008-2009 season.
This newly formed collaboration with the National Basketball Coaches Association is a natural expansions of the relationship JA has with Professional Coaches. As announced earlier this year, Joseph Abboud has a three year agreement to provide fine tailored clothing, dress shirts and ties and dress sportswear to NFL Coaches Club members to wear off the field. One former NFL coach, Mike Nolan of the San Francisco 49ers, wore Joseph Abboud suits on the sidelines for games during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Mr. Nolan won permission last year to wear the suit to honor the tradition of his father, the late Dick Nolan, who wore a suit when he coached the 49ers and New Orleans Saints in the 1960s and 1970s.
"With a long heritage of being associated with the sports world, we're thrilled to be dressing all of these highly respected professional basketball coaches," said Marty Staff, the President and Chief Executive Officer of JA Apparel Corp. "Basketball is one of the few sports where the head coaches wear suits during the games, and I think it's a terrific way to demonstrate the outstanding fit of Joseph Abboud suits on American men of all body types."
"All of my fellow Head Coaches are extremely excited about the partnership between Joseph Abboud and the National Basketball Coaches Association," said Mike Dunleavy, Head Coach of Los Angeles Clippers. "As the Official Wardrobe Supplier of the National Basketball Coaches Association, Joseph Abboud will make sure that participating Coaches look their best on and off the court. Working with a fashion forward company like Joseph Abboud, whose clothing is manufactured in the USA, was also an important factor in forging this relationship. Most of us have worn Joseph Abboud clothing at one time or another during our careers and we look forward to looking our best in the high quality and great styling of the Joseph Abboud brand."
In addition, in each of the thirty NBA markets, Joseph Abboud will provide suits for deserving members of the Boys and Girls Club of America in participation with the NBA Coaches for Kids program. The overriding goal of this initiative is to increase the opportunity for young Boys & Girls Club of America members within each team's market to have an NBA game experience that they might not otherwise be able to afford. While at the game they will also be able to observe the importance of teamwork, skill development and a support structure, all of which can be translated to success off the basketball court as well.
Joseph Abboud's team of experts met with each of the Head Coaches at a pre-season meeting in Chicago, IL, during the middle of September. While at the meeting, each coach was personally fit, and selected from hundreds of premium luxury fabric swatches, and a range of styles and silhouettes, so that each coach is assured of wearing exclusive suits. The first of their wardrobe of tailored clothing was received by the coaches prior to the start of the season.
All of the suits were made at the company's unionized factory, in New Bedford, Mass. The factory is the exclusive producer of Joseph Abboud suits, sportcoats, and dress trousers for the U.S. market. Joseph Abboud is the only American designer of fine men's suits to also manufacture suits in the United States.
