Okay, I know that JoS A Bank is not highly regarded here. I tried their traveler shirts recently as they seemed to lack style and did not excel in any respect, ended up returning them even though they were only $15 a pop. The tailored-fit was big on me even though I'm 6'1 and 215 lbs. I have not tried their suits but then again I have no need for a suit.

But here are 2 things I like about them.

1) Buying Allen Edmonds shoes. Just by being a customer you can get their free merchandise card which you can use to take 20% off of anything, and this applies to special-order shoes of any make. I ordered some AE Hinsdales there recently and got $65 off.

2) Ties. With their relentless "sales" and 50% off of clearance, i routinely buy their ties (many of which are signature collection) for about $10 to $15. They have a lot of garish ties that I am not interested in, but they have quite a few nice diagonal striped ties. Also, they have a good selection of XL ties that work great for me. I like being able to tie a windsor knot even though I'm 6'1. Best of all, they'll adjust the loop for me for free on standard-length ties so I can still get the tail through the loop.

Regarding ties, I know they do not compare to the high-end makes, but they are definitely better than anything I ever see in a department store. Much better than a place like thetiebar (which ends up costing about the same per tie) which basically sells garbage. I've tried some Brooks Brothers ties which are about equivalent or maybe only marginally better, but cost considerably more.

Do you guys agree or am I basically out of line?

I think the best you can say about JAB ties is that they're okay. But if you're committed enough to dressing well to join Styleforum, you should aim higher than okay.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
