Jos. A Bank Sale

I heard on the radio today that Jos. A. Bank is having a one day sale today where everything in the store is at 40% off. The commercial said that absolutely everything in the store is 40% off. I wonder if this sale applies to the Allen Edmonds shoes that they sell (presumably shoes are part of everything). If so, this would be a pretty damn good deal if you could get a pair of AEs for about $180.

Yeah, the commercial said everything except gift cards, but the website says giftcards and shoes.

I figured they would do something like that, that's why I didn't bother wasting time to go down there. Kind of deceptive though if you ask me considering that shoes are really the only thing that I would buy from there.

Yeah, I was thinking that pocket squares are about the only other thing other than shoes that I would buy there.

The deal with shoes always being exempt from JAB sales is that they're the only goods in the stores that JAB doesn't produce itself (which is also the reason they're generally the most desirable items in the store). So they since depend on contracts from other makers to have a stock of shoes in the first place, they have to abide by the terms of the the shoemakers, whom I imagine wouldn't be too fond of seeing their merchandise subjected to JAB's erratic pricing schedule.

Nevertheless, they should say in their commercial that everything in the store is on sale except for shoes and gift cards (the commercial mentioned that gift cards are exempt).

Oh, I agree entirely. When I worked at one for a little, I can't tell you how many times people came in during sales looking for shoes and left understandably upset after finding out that the small print said the shoes were exempt. It sucked as an employee that the ad people couldn't be bothered to make this more clear. So my post was just a rule of thumb to remember lest you find your time wasted on any future sales ads.

Take a look at their linen squares before you buy. When I was in the market I went to JAB because their price was so much cheaper than Brooks. When I went and looked at them, though, I decided to go to Brooks and cough up the extra cash.
