Hello All,

I won an eBay auction for some vintage Johnston and Murphy shoes, and I was hoping you guys could comment on the quality of the shoe and if it's worth it.

I won the auction for $25.

Relax, I paid for them. $25 isn't exactly alot of money. No need to be a pompous ass.

How "vintage" is vintage? If they're of the Made in the USA variety (15+?) then they are probably fine.

Although there is a lot of heavy creasing up front there. Was there a pic of the soles?

I don't know how old they are. I figured they were a steal at the price. I don't normally tread in these parts of SF, so I'm very ignorant when it comes to these kind of shoes.

I tend to avoid vintage shoes that have seen a substantial amount of wear, for any number of reasons. But if you like them, then that should be all that matters. Well, that and your new foot fungus. That'll matter for awhile.

They look like they have a "chisel" toe. I'm not sure how old that would be?

Hopefully they are clean inside. My guess is 1990's. Press on the soles. If they are firm around the worn parts (the balls of the feet area) they are fine. If they are soft and spongy, they may be due for a resole. Do they say 'Made In USA'? If so, (I think they will) you got your money's worth.
Give them some leather lotion and use the shoe trees to maintain shape while not in use.
Congratulations.

Something's up, it seems. Another thread had a post by a new guy named "mafooifan."
