I want to buy some shoes that I can wear with jeans or with a suit. I'm looking at Allen Edmonds FIFTH AVENUE CAP-TOE OXFORDS in brown http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF5705_1_40000000001_-1

though my girlfriend is trying to convince me to get these John Varvatos Men's Hipster Chukka Boot in black
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0059EQXLW/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

1. What do you think of the Allen Edmonds?
2. Can anyone make any recommendations for shoes similar to the Allen Edmunds?
3. What do you think of the John Varvatos Men's Hipster Chukka Boot?

Thanks in advance.

You wear jeans for one occasion and suits for another - why would you think that one pair of shoes would be appropriate for both?

The AEs are a decent staple shoe grnerally approved by SF (all but the snootiest / richest / most jaded!) but I hate dress shoes worn with jeans, especially closed to oxfords. The colour and broguing step down the formality a notch or two, but nowhere near enough to be worn with jeans.

Chukkas and desert boots are fine to be worn with jeans but the example you provided looks ugly to me, I'm sure you could do better.
