Hello all.

Just purchased a John Varvatos Charcoal Grey 3 button suit w/light grey pinstripes.

44R 100% wool made in italy

$120 dollars at the Grove in Los Angeles. It still had it's original price tag on it for $1295.

90% off. This is probably a middle of the road OTR piece, but the price was
just too hard to resist and the suit felt decent and heavy duty.

Was this a good deal?

Regards.

Sounds like a good deal. JV isn't bad quality, I have a few shirts, shoes, and jackets by him and I like most of them. I'm actually putting one up for sale in B&S, though.

Why do people have to ask stuff like this? It's $120. For a suit. $120 is a pretty good deal for pretty much *any* suit. Reasonable quality material costs about $20-40/yard, not to mention trims. It takes, say 4 yards of material to make a suit at size 44. Let's say that the material is a very reasonable $25/yard (probably, at retail, the material costs more, but JV is a pretty large brand, and probably gets a decent discount.) Add $10 for *all* the trims. That makes up $110 already. And we haven't even started with any construction costs.

Yeah, you really don't have to ask. $120 would be a reasonably good deal even on a J Crew suit; there isn't even a question Varvatos.

If it fits, good deal; if it doesn't, you got ripped off.

Actually, at that price, if it fits poorly, you could flip it for double, the buyer would still be getting a good deal, and everybody still wins.

I think the poster was trying to show off more than ask a legitimate question guys. Nobody asks if 120 is a good price for a suit.

Not everyone comes equipped with a full knowledge of the price per yard of fabric that goes into making a suit. Give him some benefit of the doubt!
