While it's a nice shoe, I've been lusting after the JL Chapel for nearly three years. This isn't enough of a revelation to change the object of my double-strap monk affections.

what do you think about the massive heel?

in my pov, it clashes with the proportions of the shoe...

It looks to be a 1" (8/8) heel. Do you think it comes too far forward? Or that it's just too tall? Personally, I like a one inch heel...but I'm short and I've worn a 13/8" (1-5/8") heel on my boots for years and years. I don't like the looks of a lower heel but more importantly I don't like the way it feels on me.

$295, Nordstrom. It isn't JL, but for the price it's a nice looking shoe.

Can't say I agree with you there.

I was there to order a pair of Vales for their MTO Event starting late Aug, so I didn't look at the price. Give them a e-mail or call, Mr. Lee is very good in regards to correspondence.

The leather looks plastic-coated.

I haven't seen them in person, so I can't say. It could be from the editing they did to make them appear ultra shiny.

it looks higher than one inch, but this might be the picture... not too far forward, but a bit of a clash with the sole, imo

The 'stodgy old fart' business is a dead business. And those that continue to offer the same ol **** - good luck to 'em.

Like Knowles said 'evolve or perish'.

These days more than ever -

+1 - that's a cool-ass boot. I probably couldn't wear it - but I like the aesthetics of it, i.e., I find it pleasurable to look at.

I wonder how many on the SF buy an item or two that they don't wear much, but really like them?

JL seems to have their classic shoes and classic lasts if people want to default to the more conservative looks. Not sure why people jump all over JL when they get creative. I agree many attempts are misses for the more mainstream market, whatever that means. Not sure there is a "mainstream market" for shoes that cost $1000+. JL certainly isn't targeting SF, and I don't think that would be a good thing in any event. Our collective taste isn't as good as you all think it is.

I was in their London shops one day when a Syrian diplomat came in and bought 3 pairs in 10 minutes...

We spoke a little bit and he had more than 80 pairs of Lobb.

That is the type of customer they want ..

Some people have 2 pairs and spend their life on-line talking about them...

The SF crowd is not automatically the most interesting to attract in pure financial terms.
