I just bought a pair of Lobb Monks. They are labelled as 2Y Dark Brown Museum. They have a kind of reddish hue to them and I'm unsure which color Saphir to go for. Can anyone suggest a color that will blend correctly?

They are regular Dark Brown Museum Calf. Use the medium brown saphir cream if you like that color to stay.

I believe the mottling is just less severe/smaller in scale than museum calfskin. I thought either someone here or somewhere on the JLP site they mentioned it, but it's been a while.

Different tanneries, and misty is more subtle. I think the creasing is a little different, too. My misties have a little bit of a lighter, waxy effect on the creasing. Kind of like shell cordovan.

Kirby Allison just posted an hour long YouTube video on John Lobb SJ. The Lobb guys aren’t exactly the most charismatic bunch but still cool to watch.

Saw the video, but was not convinced regarding the value of LOBB bespoke shoes in today's market. I am sure the quality is there, but just not sure if it's worth the stratospheric price .. The JL prestige styles already fit excellent, and wouldn't be willing to shell out 5 times that amount for a slightly better (if at all) fit and the design of the bespoke shoe that doesn't appeal to me as much as the regular prestige line JL. I understand this may sound like those apple to oranges comparisons, but when on the market, all aspects should be taken into consideration. Glad they still exists from the perspective of a shoe making industry. It means a lot for the heritage and image of the British craftsmanship.

That may be true for you but some people will never find a good fit unless it's bespoke. Frankly I probably wouldn't buy anything bespoke if I could always walk into a shop and find a perfect fit (clothing or shoes) for a fraction of the bespoke price.
