I find the holt pretty ugly and not very versatile. A black austerity brogue is like oxford number 10 maybe - even then I’d rather have brown, navy or burgundy over black. Neither makes for a good one oxford collection.

Is there a reason it has to be Lobb? I ask because based on your question it doesn’t seem like it’s because they have a perfect last for you or something given you aren’t sure on sizing. I know this is the Lobb thread and I like their stuff - don’t get me wrong it’s great but they’re far from the only game in town or even the best (either overall or at that price point)

It seems like the thing you’re treating as the most important consideration is brand and then price if you’re only focused on Lobb and only what’s on sale currently. Speaking from experience I bought a bunch of stuff that didn’t make sense or was ugly because it was a good brand but way marked down. They collected dust or got sold off.
haha luckily you knocked some sense, i would rather get Phillip II, Strand or William 75 than both of the shoes as they don't appeal much to me in term of look. I just chanced upon https://maisondegand.com/ having some serious mark down on Edward Green and John Lobb... but couldnt get any of the popular model as not available in my size. do share any if you guy bought anything.

Hi Biogentic,

After having realized from @papado that the ordered shoes are in E width, I can wait no more but finally pulled my trigger at Cettire on a pair of museum brown chapel at UK5...
The shoes are shipped from Italy, after order i checked the website you're suspecting, the UK5 stock was gone too ... somewhat i believe they are really the underlying supplier!

Do your Chapels come with shoe trees, as is customary for the Prestige Line?

Sharing my John Lobb William new standard and Chapel.. just received hours ago.. both fit are ok for me except that the William has a hard double leather sole and require to break in abit to minimise heel slip. Haven’t wear them enough therefore not sure which fit me best but I like the chapel more as it looks more sleek and elegant…

Did you do 1.5 size down from USA size or 1 size down for the William last? I know it's not the 9795 last, I'm still really on the fence about getting the William II on 9795 last, but just don't know whether to get 1.5 size down or 1 size down from USA size...

I size down 1 size from my UK size and if I will to wear the medium thickness sock, it is quite snug except for the heel area AND if i will to wear a dress sock, it is snug too but lesser than with a medium sock.. but both will experience slight heel slippage at first which i suspect is due to the double leather sole and of course the william shoes has a bigger heel curve so that is inevitable. I think whether to size down us1 or us1.5 depends on your volume or instep of your foot, if you have lower instep than normal, it is recommended to size down 1.5 but if you have medium high instep, i feel size down 1 is good enough. Anyway, if you are interested in the william new standard, msg me, i can share with you the promo code, it cost only EUR473 with free shipping but only size 6,9,10 available now.

wow 1 size down from UK normal size?!? so do you normally go .5 down from US sizing? I'm normally a 7.5 D/E in USA size, so I take a 6.5 E in City II and Phillip II. So I'm thinking to get a size 6 in William II (not sure if I want the new standard kind of too casualish / high-fashion look for me haha).

apology, i size down 1 size from my US size not UK size. Since you are a 7.5 D or E width (medium or slightly wide) i would think you stick to UK 6.5 for the William and not size down 1.5 from US. The new standard will not look as sleek as the william 2 9795 last for sure... it has a larger welt which make it more suitable for business casual than for formal attire. I dont wear suit, so this should fit me haha

Hey

Just received a pair of Hayes (st Crepin 2017) from Borghini and they came in EE width. I did not know that « limited editions » came in different widths.

However checking the Strand page (st Crepin 2020) they also come in EE width.

Are all these legit ? Or should I worry ?

thanks !

I've seen other posters here with the st crepin models in EE width so you have no reason to worry about authenticity :)
