8E should work for you. I wouldn't say the toe box is generous. It's trim, but not tight.
Thanks! Do you have experience with the Lopez, to compare both lasts in terms of fit? It’s the only JL last I’ve tried so far and fits me really well. But it’s clearly different than the 7000, the latter looks more elongated.

I'm 8E for the Lopez and 8.5E for EG's 82. On a Brannock I'm between 9 and 9.5, and between D and E.

8E fits me well on the City II and Philip II. Not sure if it's a particularly narrow or wide last or a generous toe box or not.
Thanks! That’s helpful

Could you compare the Lopez and City / Philip in terms of fit? Any noticeable difference?

Not really, but I might not be very perceptive haha. FWIW, I have EG Piccadilly's, which hurt my insteps ever so slightly, but that's not a problem with the Lopez.

NB: 20% sale for the John Lobb cap toe oxfords at Italist (link), so it's €1190,- instead of €1470,-

They don't even resemble any John Lobb model. Absolutley hideous.
and they mix the John Lobb paris rtw label with the Lobb London bootmaker name, and spell Italy wrong. Cost $$$ too. Whoever stamps these shoes knows nothing about John Lobb, and no-one in their right mind would fall for it. So cheeky.

A decent style, this Victor. Admittedly nothing exciting, but at least clean and pleasant.

It's saddening to see such a glorious brand losing more and more the commitment to its classic legacy and offering silly models (at outrageous prices), totally unworthy of such prestige.

The Bordor, differently styled, with a festive note.

I really love that plain, saturated, uniform leather and colour, rather rare nowadays. The 8896 is not the best fitting last: I would like to have more length in the forepart and a tighter heel.

Agreed. Those are gorgeous. The colour reminds me of something you see in the sample galleries of the old London bespoke makers. Personally, I greatly prefer simple aniline calf leathers over the burnished and patina-ed crust leathers that dominate right now. I think the subtle natural patina that good aniline leather gets from years of wear and polishing is unbeatable.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
