My Williams II in Ardilla are a favourite. However, a dear friend refers to them as baby poo.

Ardilla is a gorgeous colour.

I took inspiration for my Adelaide from an old catalogue I got in their shop in London in the end of the 90s. Here the Adelaide in Havana Antique.

And was planning to have them either in that colour or in Ardilla Box Calf. Here the Chelsea.

As neither the one nor the other was any longer available, I opted for the Ardilla Misty Calf, which is very lightly speckled.

Gee Dorian, you seem to have a lot of John Lobb.
Why do you like them?
How many do you have if you don't mind me asking?

Camborne in Pewter Misty Calf on the 7000 last.

Not a fan of marbled leathers, they were strongly in trend in the days, but this seems subtle enough.

The leather, besides the look, feels outstanding, thick and supple, crease-resistant.
Those are gorgeous. I'm also not a fan of marble leathers (and it drives me nuts how Museum Calf is Lobb's default for brown these days), but that Misty Calf is a great look.

I don't have a single pair in museum calf, it's not attractive to me.

John Lobb made this kind of leather a sort of signature one and there was a time in which they basically offered every RTW model in museum calf.

Here an article about it.

I have ten pairs, both ready-to.wear and made-to-order. I also have about ten pairs of Gaziano & Girling and a few pairs of Edward Green, Carmina and others.

I like John Lobb because they are certainly quality shoes and their 7000 and 8695 lasts fit my feet in a good way. The reason why I have more JL than EG, for example, is that the former was present, as well as GG, in a store here in Berlin at the time I bought the most of my shoes.

Today I would also buy online, given that I know a last works.

Thought you might have had about that number for a shoe lover, so not surprised at all. You seem to lean towards the highend English rtw.

Yes Lobb,G&G and EG certainly make nice shoes.
8695 fits me well too.
You prefer EG over Lobb?

The museum calf trend is definitely overdone and doesn't look great on most shoes, but on some it looks stunning. Eg:

- Lobb navy museum calf
- Lobb olive museum calf
- Lobb purple museum calf
- Vass reddish/gold museum calf looks very striking.

Natural patinas do look much better, but problem is that most shoes don't use leather that give off a stunning patina over time.

No, I like both, as well as GG. Each of them has its strengths.

Exploring the world of bespoke though, I've become conscious that there are even finer and more handsome shoes and boots.

top english rtw = beautiful factory shoes
top bespoke = works of art and hard to go back.

Maybe get a few bespoke for your best shoes?
What bespoke maker would you choose?
