Can you elaborate what makes JL better ? I really want to buy a pair, but I need to know a little bit more about what makes it worth it so I can justify it to myself :)

There really isn't a quantifiable difference in value between a 1200$ shoe and a 1500$ shoe. It's not like you're getting substantially better for the increase in price at this level.

When you're talking about EG and JL, they're both Goodyear welted footwear made with high quality components and high quality craftsmanship. If you prefer the Lobb styling, museum calf, and fit, go with them.

I'd agree with this - I view EG, JL, G&G as all the same level in terms of quality & finishings.

John Lobb may still got it, but their styles are highly problematic these days .. Very few true classics remained untouched, and some of them are not so classic due to 7000 last which is on elongated side, imo. The only thing that still keeps me looking and acquiring some of them is the 8695 last and quality of the leather itself ..

I find Edward Green unbeatable at everything else .. In boot compartment especially!

Interesting to see that prices between the two are now almost even. That wasn't the case just a few years ago when John Lobb used to be at least 15% more expensive ..

You are right about the elongated 7k last. Makes it hard. I've never tried their wide fitting really. Figure that could help.

The leather and make appears higher than EG. More elegant.

Yes, some strange patterns.

Here Lobb is still more expensive than EG.

Interesting - I don't like the 8695 last & like the 7000 / 8000 last for Lobbs. Then again, I am a big fan of the cleverley chiseled toe (G&G tg73). EG are okay but the 2 EGs I tried didn't fit my foot. Now that I think about it, I probably like the cleverley (Anthony Cleverley line) RTWs the best out of the 4 (EG, AC, G&G, JL) - theres something about them I can't explain - perhaps, they're lighter than the others. Very elegant feel. The Obvious issue with Cleverley is a limited range & availability. Obviously not taking anything away from Lobbs, G&Gs, and EGs. I like the G&G lasts better than Lobbs, but, now that I think about it, I do recall saying that I prefer the Lobb break in over G&Gs. (I do not wear dress shoes as often as I would like, thus, I forget my initial impressions.)
