For me, when I see a tag that says "Made in China/India/Turkey/Mexico/Etc." it tells me that the company is trying to reduce labor costs for manufacturing by using (some might say taking advantage of) foreign labor laws that American labor laws can't compete with. Otherwise, you would just make everything in America since you are technically a USA based business. Some people will pay more for that "Made in USA" tag knowing they are supporting American Labor/Manufacturing/Entrepreneurship so when they find out it's not supporting that it can be a bit of a bummer. Just my .02.

Made in USA doesn't necessarily mean the highlighted either...

same with made in italy

the โ€œqualityโ€ of a product is the sum of all its parts. Like mentioned, made in Italy or made in USA doesnโ€™t necessarily stand for much these days. They are terms used to deceive the customer, a lot of times these are just regular old sweatshops.
Getting back to the โ€œsum of all its partsโ€. You can use the best zippers and the best cloth/fabric, but if you sew it up in a lousy sweatshop in Italy, itโ€™s not going to mean ish. Same goes for using poor materials and poor hardware, but using the best factory.
All these factors come together when making a product and stating its quality.
Generally for most consumers the hand feel is the most important. Is the material luxurious, does the hardware feel well made, beefy/sturdy, and/or zips easily?
I have a lot of outerwear made by arcteryx veilance that is made in Canada and some that is made in China, and honestly the craftsmanship on a lot of the Chinese pieces are better than the made in Canada pieces.
So donโ€™t fault a company based on where they make something. I would hope they are choosing the โ€œbestโ€ (quality, how they care for their workers) factories they can afford, and from the sounds of what Mike said, they produce items where they can and with the specialist that are best with a particular item (ie China for outerwear, sweaters; japan for denim, etc etc).
If you are going to have fault with a product really go in on the materials/construction.
if the jacket sucks because of the materials used, then donโ€™t complain about the factory it was made in. That was a design choice by the company not the factory.
This has gone on for too long, Iโ€™m going to stop.

TL;DR:
1. where a factory is located, generally doesnโ€™t mean ish these days. What matters is what the factory is good at making.
2. quality materials generally make quality goods, if the material sucks, then the product is going to suck.
3. if a company knowing sends good materials to a crappy factory (despite location), shame on them.

USA labor doesnโ€™t equate quality. Most of the good factories known for making quality goods have closed down or likely soon will. Look at all the brooks brothers factories that are closing. Sometimes youโ€™re better off sending the materials elsewhere to places that specialize in making specific items and sometimes thatโ€™s places like China or Portugal

โ€œInsertCountry madeโ€ or โ€œmade in insertCountryโ€ generally means only a percentage of the sum of parts/manufacturing/costs were made in that country.
For example a โ€œswiss madeโ€ watch only needs to have the movement be of swiss origin and 60% of assembling/costs are within Switzerland. Which means, and very often, to keep costs down they will have the rest of the watch made in countries like China.
Some of the best watches are made this way.

I remember a friends brother in law (โ€œmurica, build the wallโ€) explaining he only buys Fordโ€™s because he only wants to buy American. I then had to explain to him that his Ford Fusion was made in Mexico along with many other cars from different American brands. I wish I could save the look on his face. It was like someone ran over his puppy.

The overall point is where a product is made is only part of the story.

So I just got my girl the bomber and a main selling point is that it says made in Los Angeles. But the tag on it says ******* made in China. I just paid almost $500 for a bomber made in China? Iโ€™m legit pissed. View attachment 1438961

I actually ordered this same jacked for my girl from the Eclipse sale (the iridescent one)... hasn't come yet. Good to know they are fixing. Dope jacket for sure.

Not feeling the skele-tops. Would rather rock some Blends x Vans...

One of my favorite pairs of shoes I own. That zipper is fire.

Dude ethical reasons. A country that heavily censors its citizens, is literally erasing a culture of a certain people and on and on. Also being made in LA is a major selling point and the description also said it had RiRi zippers and it didnโ€™t.
Would you not support a factory in LA because of the unethical actions of our government? I just donโ€™t think itโ€™s fair to punish a chinese factory because of the actions of their government

20oz LA sweats...

@MIKE_JE is the Beach heavier as well?

Yes these are all made in Japan with the same weight terry. It is the same terry as marble mix - a mid weight in between our mainline and replica / 26 oz.

oh man at least itโ€™s similar. I remember last year/sample sale, a bunch of people got womenโ€™s raincoat/jackets instead of what they ordered

They did the sample sale online last year? Thought it was only at the sample sale location in LA?
