So is the idea of the elastane that they won't stretch out like raw denim over time? They will spring back to their original shape?

Will they shrink when washed like raw denim though?

Agreed. The N&F super skinny guy is Japanese stretch denim as well, and the dimensions are almost identical to JE denim - for only ~$140. I do like the details on the JE pairs (selvedge color, buttons, colors) but not enough to spend $300+ on a pair.

The inseam on the new Coast denim is 34" for all pairs, for those who were asking.

For me who was the only one asking or cares [IMG][IMG]

    Thanks JE!! Team long legs.

The denim nerd in me will just quietly step away from the conversation because I will post a super long post about all this if not.

@johnelliottco do you know what size this guy would be wearing in the new denim?

Brandi helped me out based on his size back then....

    Thanks !

Probably a 29 or 30. We measured these just last week - if you measure your denim and compare you should be good.

Denim looks nice. Interested in hearing the feedback on them. Generally I'm not a fan of raw but it seems like JE has made them manageable with stretch. Personally I'm waiting on the washed / destroyed versions. I'm at that point where I want unique pairs. I'm set with my basic colors

to me it's not even about the price as much as the fact that it's just plain denim for that price...I'll definitely look for the washed stuff they come out with in the future but I'm good on these.

I made a order by credit card and JE said they did a partial refund to prevent fraud. I went back and forth with customer service and told him there was no refund under one dollar in my bank statement. Is this the normal process?

In all fairness, the new denim is selvedge with a stretch. Selvedge denim has a tighter weave therefore making the garment more durable and then it has the stretch to it. I think $325 is reasonable considering its such a specialty fabric. That and who else is making selvedge with a stretch? Most other denim with a stretch isn't even selvedge like slp, rg, r&b, ro, etc.

For me though, I prefer a lot of give in my denim. So I'm curious as to how much this new denim will actually stretch since selvedge is so tough to begin with.

@JohnElliottCo , can you speak to what the denim is like when its more broken in in regards to stretch vs. the stiffness of selvedge? I think it would be a while to get a true feel for these as opposed to right away.

Selvedge and stress are not at all mutually exclusive. SLP, Rick Owens, Naked and Famous all have some selvedge w stretch

I stand corrected. Especially with n&f. I forgot about them. I'm not aware that slp, or ro had selvedge w/stretch. I thought I was up to date with most denim lines. Could you send me info on the slp & ro selvedge denim? Thanks!

Raw is not the same as selvedge though right?

Raw means that it is unprocessed/unfixed and will fade and also stretch a lot before shrinking a lot after the first wash

Which is why I don't understand how it will work with the elastane

You can have raw and selvedge.

Selvedge is how the material is processed into a fabric. A shuttle loom is used to process and make selvedge denim. So you can have raw, washed, etc. that is selvedge.

Yeah but this is called "raw" meaning it will fade and shrink right?

Just wanting to know how that will be possible with elastane

Raw actually just means that the denim fabric has not been washed. The second any denim goes through a wash it's not raw. Fade on raw denim will be due to the indigo, stiffness, wear, and wash(es). Superfuture Denim can provide an intensive level of insight. Shrink has a variety of factors. Raw tends to shrink the most, as does any fabric washed for the first time. Sanforization ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanforization ) also makes a pretty massive difference. Again lots of info on sources like Superfuture Denim, or a good denim store like Selfedge or Blue in Green can provide some serious insight.

Raw will definitely fade. Now how much it shrinks depends on wether its sanforized or unsanforized. Sanforized is pre-shrunk and will shrink around 2-4%. Sanforized is not re-shrunk and will shrink around 9-11%. So with unsanforized, you should always soak your denim first. That way they shrink and you can then have them hemmed or adjusted or not. My bet, but i'm not sure at all, is that the new JE denim is raw sanforized.

The old raw jeans were like 225$ right?
Their new pricing is up there with designer denim and actual denim brands
