I have 2 pairs of obsidians, a 28 and a 29. The 29s stretched a bit and have softened up and I love them. They are a little bigger now but I think they work well with sneakers and a more casual look. The 28s I’ve prob worn 3x and they are still pretty skin tight, I reserve them more for date nights when I want a more “smart”/tailored looks. But cot damn are they hard to get on and off, they get stuck around my calves.

Somewhat agree with you. I think it really matters on the color of the denim. I think light colored jeans look really bad when they are skin tight, I think it’s easier to pull off skin tight denim when it’s dark colored. I also think it’s really dependent on the look you’re going for. If I’m wearing a leather jacket and going out at NIGHT, I’ll wear pretty skinny black denim, if it’s the daytime hours I’ll generally wear “looser” denim, especially if I’m wearing sneakers.

Not the best pic but you get an idea. About 6’1 190. Size 36 on Plumas. Usually a 34 in the waist but with JE’s measurements I size up even on the denim.

Hard to tell for that angle but I'd say you should probably size down to a 34 especially if these have not stretched out yet.

34 would look better, but it’s all about how you like them to fit. If you like a baggier fit, then I’d stick with the 36

I lift heavy and size down 2, so that definitely isn't always a rule. If you're someone who has trouble fitting into denim in general, you just have to experiment for yourself.
